Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
The first overall draft pick selected by the Cincinnati Stingers in the 1975 WHA Amateur Draft, Claude Larose would play parts of four seasons in the rebel league, split between the Stingers and Indianapolis Racers. This Racers jersey was worn by the winger in the mid-to-late-1970s, and it’s historically important as this is the exact style garment a young Wayne Gretzky wore while debuting as a pro with the Racers in 1978-79. A Rawlings label with sizing sits affixed to the collar, with a loop-style fight strap fully intact. Featuring a four-layer tackle-twill Racers team crest, the tie-neck garment also utilizes double-twill sleeve and verso numbers, with “Larose” screened onto a blue knit nameplate. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
Game-wear includes a few faint marks over the lower front and sleeves, with some yellow paint transfer on the left shoulder. We should also note some fading/cracking to “Larose” across the back nameplate.
