A three-time James Norris Memorial Trophy winner as the NHL's top defenseman, Denis Potvin spent his entire 15-season career with the New York Islanders, instrumental in their consecutive cup dynasty in the early-1980s. This Islanders captain’s jersey was worn by the HOF defenceman in 1985-86, and it’s been signed and photo-matched. CCM tagging sits atop a born-on date tag of “85 01” along the collar, with an embroidered CCM* crest on the back bottom hem. Featuring the familiar Islanders team crest in attractive triple-twill, the solid blue V-neck has been embellished with double-twill sleeve and verso numbers, with the captain’s “C” and “Potvin” affixed in single twill. A customized fight strap has also been utilized, with Potvin signing along the top section of his “5” on verso, with the signature exhibiting slight fading/bleeding.
Game-wear on the important HOF sweater includes a number of dark marks on the lower front, repeating over each sleeve, along with pilling around the collar and behind the team crest. A few board burns are also present, with a pair of holes/rips visible on the upper left sleeve. Regarding the previously mentioned photo-match, Getty Image #461993354 from Nov 6th 1985 has been matched to the small diagonal black mark on the left side hem in the orange striping band, while also visible on that image is the orange mark above the "5" on the left sleeve and the two unrepaired holes on the left upper back.
