Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Ultra-intriguing matte-finish photographs here have the beholder marveling at the Hamilton Tigers crest and uniforms, along with goaltender and player equipment and the looks on the faces of Jake Forbes and Mickey Roach - these offer plenty. The presence of Forbes also brings forth the story of the netminder being suspended for the entire 1921-22 season by the Toronto St. Pats for refusing to accept contract terms! He was sold at season's end to Hamilton where he performed for three campaigns before continuing on to the New York Americans. Roach meanwhile also played for the same three teams, after captaining the Hamilton Tigers senior team to the Allan Cup in 1918-19. The Nova Scotia native is said to have been hockey's fastest skater in his prime. Both men's names are penned to the back here, with a diagonal crease/crack visible in the lower right corner region of the Forbes photo which is missing an upper right corner. The Roach picture is free of any notable flaws, with both treasures measuring 4" by 6".
