Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Two highly desirable postcards are here for your collecting consideration, with an antique example featuring the famous Queen’s University hockey team from 1906, along with a postcard for the 1924 Allan Cup champion Soo Greyhounds. Queen’s University hockey team is especially noteworthy, as they challenged for Lord Stanley’s Cup on three occasions, in 1895, 1899 and 1906, with HOFer and Great War casualty George Richardson pictured along with fellow HOFer Marty Walsh. The Soo Greyhounds photo features all players listed below, and includes prominent HOFer Frederick “Bun” Cook. The Queen’s postcard has been addressed and postmarked for 1908, while the Soo Greyhounds postcard features a clean reverse.
The 1906 Queen’s University postcard remains in very good condition, with toning and some light surface wear, along with a few small minor creases and corner dings, while the Soo Greyhounds postcard also exhibits toning, along with edge and corner wear, with the bottom left corner clipped. Both postcards measure the standard 3 ½” x 5 ½”.
