Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Hailing from the mid-1970s, we have a Chicago Black Hawks jersey worn by forward Alain Daigle, and it’s been photo-matched. Wilson size 48 tagging along with a Gunzo’s supplier label both sit affixed to the collar, with the Gunzo label partially detached. Styled with the classic partially chain-stitched Indian head team crest, the white durene has also been accented with double-twill sleeve and verso numbers, along with attractive chain-stitched tomahawk patches over each shoulder. A garter-style fight strap is intact along with “74 PO” on the inside hem, divulging use first in the 1974 playoffs, and most certainly worn in the proceeding season(s). We should also note that there is evidence of a former nameplate, most likely added for televised use, but later removed. Please take note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve.
Game-wear on the V-neck sweater is heavy, attesting to its prolonged use with a number of marks on the lower front and sleeves, along with a few small unrepaired holes across each elbow section. There is also some red paint transfer over the left sleeve, with 12 team repairs present. We have 3 on the front, 7 on verso and single examples over each sleeve. Puckering to the numbers on verso is also present, with no alteration, while the alternate’s “A” was later applied in the late-1970s or very early 1980s when the jersey was sent down to the junior team in Portland. The jersey has been photo-matched to the particulars within the team crest, to the double sewing thread on the black band beneath the numbers on the right sleeve, and to the unrepaired cut just below the lower (small) black stripe.
