Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
Similar in style to the contemporary Chicago Black Hawks during the era this attractive jersey was constructed, a simple “Dry Clean Only” label remains affixed to the collar, with a barber-pole style striping pattern utilized, with alternating red, black and white band that run throughout the length of the garment. Styled with a dual-layer felt team crest featuring an attractive Indian head with chain-stitched detailing, “Black Hawks” has been placed above, and “Chelsea” below. “14” also appears on verso in matching material, with just a small amount of discolouration/staining to the cream-coloured striping bands. Originally purchased from supplier Gerry Cosby in the early-1970s, the buyer was told by Cosby that the jersey is of 1940s/1950s vintage, and most likely originates from the Chelsea Massachusetts area near Boston.
The vintage garment appears to be a men’s medium or possibly large for the day, with 26” from the top of the reverse neckline to the bottom of the back hem, and 19” from armpit to armpit.
