Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
What a piece of New York Ranger history! Lynn Patrick, Art Coulter and Bryan Hextall are featured among the 11 members of the Broadway Blue Shirts who signed goalie Dave Kerr’s team-signed 1940 game-used stick who supposedly gifted the stick after the 1940 Stanley Cup finals. Kerr has signed the McNiece’s stick, which has its original tape jobs on the knob, paddle and blade and red paint transfer on the handle. Art Coulter makes it a total of four deceased HOFers who have signed, including Hextall, who scored the Stanley Cup-winning overtime goal for the Rangers in Game 6 of the 1940 final.
Kerr signed on the handle, just above the paddle. The rest of the pencil autographs are on the same side of the paddle between the two tape jobs. “Jimmy McNiece’s ‘Super Special’ Hand Made in Montreal, Can.” stamps are on both sides of the paddle, which has light cracking, likely from aging. This historic Rangers team-signed stick is also autographed by Muzz Patrick, Ott Heller, Alex Shibicky, Dutch Hiller, Kilby Macdonald and Alf Pike. It must be noted that based on the players who signed the stick, it can only be from the 1939-40 Stanley Cup season or the following campaign as all 11 Rangers who have signed were on the team both seasons.
