Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Babe Ruth and legendary manager Joe McCarthy are among the 15 members of the 1934 New York Yankees whose autographs appear on the team-signed sheet featured in this framed display. The 39-year-old Bambino hit 22 homers and drove in 84 runs while hitting .288 in 125 games in his Yankees swan song season. McCarthy, who was on the verge of a record run of success, had the first of his seven World Series titles with New York under his belt. Yankees coach and fellow deceased HOFer Joe Sewell has also signed in black fountain pen ink in two columns along with the likes of all-stars Frank Crosetti, Myril Hoag, Johnny Murphy and Red Rolfe, among others. “New York Yankees” is handwritten in block letters across the top of the team signed sheet, which displays to 4 1/2" x 5” within the matte opening in the bottom right of the framed display that also shows a picture of Ruth and a montage picture of the 1934 Yankees. Comes with a PSA/DNA LOA.
The signatures in order are Sam Byrd, Russ Van Atta, Jimmy DeShong, Johnny Murphy, Frank Crosetti, Myril Hoag, Arndt Jorgens, (unknown), Jack Saltzgaver, Joe Sewell, Red Rolfe, Joe McCarthy, Art Fletcher, Babe Ruth and Don Heffner.
There is a light black mark through the Fletcher autograph, possibly a smudge, that does not touch or affect the wonderful Ruth signature below it. The team-signed sheet has a small spot of paper loss in the bottom right and light creasing in the upper left.
