Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
This lot contains game-worn items featuring some of Motor City’s best. We have a pair of gloves worn by Viacheslav Fetisov circa 1995-96, along with two sets of skates, with one pair worn by Brendan Shanahan in the late-1990s, the other by Igor Larionov in the early-2000s. Considering both the stature of the Detroit Red Wings along with the players featured, this lot should receive some spirited bidding.
Arguably the most successful modern NHL team, the Detroit Red Wings have qualified for the playoffs every single season for the past quarter of a century! Even more remarkable, over those past 25+ seasons the Red Wings have won 4 Stanley Cups and have made 8 appearances in the Conference Finals. The breakdown for each of these Detroit Red Wings game-used items is as follows. 1) Viacheslav Fetisov game-used gloves. Originating from roughly the mid-1990s, the solid red gloves made by Hespeler have screened-on identifiers with “Fetisov” embroidered onto each wrist guard. Nice use is exhibited on the pair, with marks and abrasions present along with heavy rubbing to the leather in spots, especially along edges. 2) Brendan Shanahan game-used skates. CCM Tacks models, each skate with cut laces intact features screened-on identifiers, with “9-10” and “14 DRW” handwritten along the underside of each. Nice use is again exhibited, with wear to the fabric of the boots along with puck marks. It’s also possible that the blades themselves have been changed during their period of use which is a common trait, as the blade holders currently in place exhibit less wear than the boots. 3) Igor Larionov game-used skates. Bauer Supreme models with Tuuk custom blades, each skate features rubberized identifiers along with screened-on logos along the blade holders. “9-10” along with “8 DRW” is handwritten along the underside of each, with the original Red Wings team store price tag still affixed to the right skate. Moderate game-use is apparent, with dark marks visible on each of the blade holders, along with some red paint transfer in a few random spots on both skates.
