Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
We have a pair of signed gloves worn by Larry Murphy that are photo-matched to Game 1 of the 1997 Stanley Cup Final, accompanied by a pair of his game-used skates from the same era, along with a pair of skates worn by Nicklas Lidstrom from the 1997-98 season that have also been photo-matched. Considering both the stature of the Detroit Red Wings along with the players featured, this lot should receive some spirited bidding.
Arguably the most successful modern NHL team, the Detroit Red Wings have qualified for the playoffs every single season for the past quarter of a century! Even more remarkable, over those past 25+ seasons the Red Wings have won 4 Stanley Cups and have made 8 appearances in the Conference Finals. This lot contains game-worn items featuring some of Motor City’s best. The breakdown for each of these Detroit Red Wings game-used items is as follows. 1) Larry Murphy 1996-97 signed game-worn and photo-matched gloves. KOHO Revolution models in solid red with white accents, each feature screened-on and rubberized identifiers. “Larry Murphy” appears along the wrist guard, between the palm and affixed KOHO cloth labels, with each glove showing nice use. A number of marks and abrasions are present, along with some heavy rubbing to the leather in spots. Each glove has been signed across the top section in marker, with the signature on the left glove exhibiting considerable fading. Regarding the previously mentioned photo-match, Getty image #1388821 from Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on May 31st 1997 against Philly has been matched to the three specific dark marks on and near the white accents above the rubberized “K” of “KOHO” on the left glove. 2) Larry Murphy circa-1998 game-used skates. CCM Tacks with Kevlar, each skate features rubberized and screened-on identifiers, with all lacing intact. “9.5-10.5” along with “55 DRW” has been handwritten along the underside of each, with nice game-use visible which includes marks and abrasions to both the boots and blades/holders. 3) Nicklas Lidstrom 1997-98 game-used skates photo-matched. Bauer Format Plus models, each feature screened-on and rubberized identifiers, with reinforcement threading added in spots. “9.5-10.5” and “5 DRW” has been written to the underside of each skate, but most of it has worn away on the right skate. Great use is exhibited, with a number of abrasions to the boots especially along edges. There is also wear and marks to the blade holders. Regarding the previously mentioned photo-match, Getty image #311378 from April 15th 1998 has been matched to the distinct pattern of wear to the screened-on Tuuk logos along the front and back left side of the left skate, and to the marks beneath the Tuuk logo on the front of the left side of the left skate. We should also note that a Red Wings team store price tag is still affixed to the left skate.
