Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
This lot contains game-worn items featuring some of Motor City’s best. We have a pair of gloves worn by Chris Draper circa 1997-98, along with a pair of skates worn by the Toronto native in the same era. Next, we have a second set of gloves, with this pair worn by Joey Kocur circa 1998-99, along with an additional pair of skates that have been worn by Darren McCarty in the 1996-97 NHL season.
Arguably the most successful modern NHL team, the Detroit Red Wings have qualified for the playoffs every single season for the past quarter of a century! Even more remarkable, over those past 25+ seasons the Red Wings have won 4 Stanley Cups and have made 8 appearances in the Conference Finals. The breakdown for each of these Detroit Red Wings game-used items is as follows. 1) Chris Draper game-used gloves circa 1997-98. Hespeler RTX models in Red Wings red and white, identifiers have been screened-on, with “Nails” (Draper’s nickname) appearing along the top of the wrist guard. Nice use is exhibited with heavy wear and rubbing to the leather in spots. 2) Chris Draper game-worn skates circa 1997-98. Bauer FormFit models, rubberized identifiers are present on the boots along with screened-on examples appearing on the blade moldings. With all the original lacing intact, there is also “KD 122” and “33 DRW” handwritten along the underside of each skate. Nice use is visible on the pair, with a few marks around the blades along with red paint transfer over each toe. 3) Joey Kocur game-worn gloves circa 1998-99. Hespeler RTX models in Red Wings red and white, identifiers have been screened-on, with “Kocur” appearing along the top of the wrist guard. Nice use is exhibited with heavy wear and rubbing to the leather in spots, along with wear to the palms. 4) Darren McCarty game-worn skates 1996-97. Graff Top Flight Supra models, rubberized identifiers are present on the boots along with screened-on examples appearing on the blade moldings. With all the original lacing intact, there is also “9-10” and “25 DRW” handwritten along the underside of each skate. Heavy use is visible on the pair, with marks and abrasions along with gouges to the toe sections. Reinforcement threading has also been added to both sides of each boot, with some spot rusting to the blades. The skates appear to match three different Getty images (1396848) (1395544) (1395537) from Game 4 of the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals, but they are not high resolution enough to be called definitive matches.
