Leading the league for most of the season in scoring as a 37 year old in 2002-03, Mario Lemieux would only dress for another 36 games spread over the next two seasons before retiring. This Penguins captain’s jersey was worn by the Hall of Fame superstar in a match against the Rangers on Dec 26th 2002, and it’s been photo-matched. With size 56 tagging in the collar including handwritten “66c”, there’s also additional NHL and CCM patches on the bottom hem and back neckline. Styled with the vintage-style 1970’s team crest that has seen modern use throughout the 2000s, the solid white v-neck has been fully embellished with attractive textured double-twill numbers and name-on-nameplate, along with matching alternate patches over each shoulder. Three photos will be included that show photo-matches. An LOA and COR from MeiGray will accompany, along with an additional document.
Game-wear on the important sweater is abundant, with a number of dark marks on the lower front, along with a few faint board burns over the left sleeve. Regarding the previously mentioned photo-matches, the first photo has been matched to the stick mark that runs across the lower right front, while the second photo shows exact matches to the placement and threading of the top of the “I” and right side of the “X” of “Lemieux” on the nameplate, along with additional threading from letters including the bottom of the first “E”. Lemieux managed a goal and two assists in a 6-1 victory over the Rangers on Dec 26th 2002. Hailing from the twilight of his historic Hall of Fame career and photo-matched, this jersey will garner considerable attention.
