Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Credited as the last WHA player active in the NHL, Mark Messier would see action for a quarter of a century, winning an impressive six Stanley Cups along the way. From his NHL swan song, we have a New York Rangers captain’s jersey worn by the Edmonton native in his last season, 2003-04. With size tagging in collar that’s been sewn-down, there are also embroidered CCM and NHL crests on the back neckline and bottom hem respectively. Double-twill drop-shadow numbers and letters have been utilized throughout the garment, with the captain’s “C” over the left breast also fashioned from double-twill. A MeiGray patch numbered B06269 resides on the inside hem, and according to the matching accompanying LOA, the sweater is a “White 2nd Regular Season” example.
Game-wear on the important tie-neck garment includes a few faint marks on the lower front, along with additional marks over the left sleeve and faint board burns over the right. A 1-inch slit is also visible on the upper right sleeve.
