Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Featuring the forever popular Philadelphia Flyers, we have an impressive grouping of sticks game-used by notable players while logging ice time with the infamous Broad Street Bullies from the 1970s to 1990s. We have five total sticks with four game-used, including examples from Ron Hextall, Bill Barber, Rick MacLeish and Ross Lonesberry, with the Barber and Lonesberry sticks team-signed. The remaining stick was issued to Gary Dornhoeffer, and it’s been team-signed in the mid-1970s by the Flyers. An instant collection, this grouping will fill any Flyers fan with pride. An LOA for the Ron Hextall stick will accompany.
The breakdown for each of the offered sticks in this Flyers lot is as follows. 1) Ron Hextall mid-1990s game-used stick. A Sher-Wood 950 SOP model, “Hextall” and “27” appear stamped-on, with the stick retaining its tape on the blade and handle/knob. With just light wear that includes some chips/gouges to the paddle, the stick remains in crack-free condition. 2) Rick MacLeish 1983-84 game-used stick. Originating from the season he wore #21, the KOHO model has “MacLeish” on the upper shaft, with the majority of the stick covered in black finish. The balde and handle exhibit the original tape, with nice use showing including wear to the taped section of blade. 3) Ron Lonsberry 1970s game-used and team-signed stick. A Sher-Wood model, “Lonsberry” is stamped-on, with “18” handwritten. The original tape is in place on the blade and knob, with nice use showing including a break along the underside of the blade. Signed by approx. 20, the signatures have faded quite heavily over time. Included are Schultz, Clement, Flett, Parent, Barber, Lonsberry and others. 4) Bill Barber game-used stick team-signed by the 1973-74 Stanley Cup champion Flyers. “Barber B” sits on the upper shaft along with “7” handwritten, with a Real Sporting Goods stamp also in place. The blade has been broken and taped over, with the stick retaining its original tape on the handle/knob. There is also a date stamp of "7 sept 1973" on the underside near the heel. Roughly 19 have signed in ballpoint including Clarke, Parent, Schultz, Barber, Kindrachuk, Kelly, Crisp, Al MacAdam (only there 1973-74) and others. 5) Gary Dornhoeffer mid-1970s game-issued team-signed stick. “G Dornhoeffer” and “12” appear on the upper shaft of this Sher-Wood PMP model stick, which retains both striping stickers and remains in excellent condition. Approx 15 have signed, with the signatures quite faded including Parent, Dupont, Kelly, Holmgren, Bridgman, Saleski, Kindrachuk, Lonsberry and others.
