Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Remembered for both his speed and quick hands, Paul Kariya spent 15 prosperous seasons in the NHL including nine with Anaheim where he holds the franchise record for most shots - along with most overtime goals in a single season. This Mighty Ducks captain’s jersey was worn by the Vancouver native in 2001-02, and it’s been photo-matched. Size tagging is affixed to the collar, with embroidered CCM and NHL crests on the back neckline and bottom hem respectively. Styled with the embossed Ducks team crest in use from 1993-2006, the solid white v-neck has been embellished with triple-twill numbers along with matching alternate patches over each shoulder. The team patch resides on the inside hem, and it denotes that this garment is a “Set 1” example. An LOA will accompany.
Nice game-use is visible on the sweater, with marks over each sleeve and on the lower front. There is also a large stick mark directly beneath the team crest, along with board burns over the right elbow. Regarding the previously mentioned photo-match, Getty Image #72569796 from the 2002 All-Star week skills competition on Feb 1st has been matched to the distinct placement of the upper and lower right side of the captain’s “C”. Those characteristics are also showing up on Getty images from earlier on in the season on Getty images #1490023 and #72442691 but they are not high resolution enough to call them definitive photo-matches.
