Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
A product of Dynamo Moscow, Russian defenceman Sergei Gonchar logged ice time with a number of NHL clubs throughout his career including Washington, Boston, Dallas, Montreal, Ottawa and the 2009 Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins. This Capital’s jersey was worn by the Chelyabinsk native in 1997-98. A CCM label along with a size 56 fly tag remain affixed to the collar, with embroidered CCM and NHL crests on the back bottom hem. Featuring the attractive eagle team crest in use from 1997-2002, the solid white sweater has been adorned with triple-twill numbers and name-on-nameplate, with matching alternate patches residing over each shoulder. Nice use is exhibited on the garment, with marks on the front and over each sleeve, along with board burns. 11 team repairs are also present, with 7 on the right sleeve, 3 on the right and a single example on the lower front. A swatch from Cutting Edge has been placed on the inside hem, and it confirms that this “Set 1” jersey originates from the 1997-98 NHL season.
