Some of the most iconic and recognizable characters ever created, Mickey Mouse and friends have entertained a number of past generations, and continue to fascinate today. We have three original artworks from the mid-1970s to mid-1980s featuring Disney characters in sporting endeavors, including Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and one of Donald’s sons. Ranging in size from 12” x 18” to 15 ¾” x 20”, a pair have been fashioned on Bainbridge artist board, while the other example appears on thin tracing paper. We have one artwork featuring Mickey running, fishing and roller skating, one with “DuckTales” graphics picturing one of Donald’s sons as a hockey player, and lastly, we have an original artwork that features Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald in a doubles tennis match.
The breakdown for each original Disney artwork is as follows. 1) Mickey the Athlete (15 ¾” x 20”). The lovable mouse is pictured roller skating, fishing and running, fashioned on Bainbridge artist board. There is some toning along with wear to a few corners, primarily the upper left. A “Walt Disney Productions” cut that was originally affixed to the artwork has fallen off, but will be included. “Walt Disney Productions” was used by the company from 1929 to 1983. 2) Doubles Tennis with Mickey and Pals (13” x 17 ½”). Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy all partake in a game of tennis, with Minnie smashing the ball off of Goofy’s head. On Bainbridge board, there are a few stray pen lines in the upper right corner along with a “Copyright Walt Disney Productions” cut affixed to the middle section. 3) DuckTales Hockey (12” x 18”). One of Donald’s sons is pictured shooting a puck, with “90” and “uckTales” of DuckTales on white paper that’s been adhered to the piece. With some surface wear and toning, a “1986 Disney” copyright cut has been affixed along the bottom right.
