The 1954 World Championships were held in Stockholm, with Russia winning the gold medal with a record of 6 wins along with a single tie. This teal wool sweater was worn by Viktor Shuvalov in the 1954 World Championships, and it features a high rounded collar with cream-colored shoulder, sleeve and lower striping bands, all of which exhibit bleeding from the sweater’s darker and dominant colour. A few stitched team repairs can be found, with nearly a dozen holes present along with damage around the collar which has not been addressed. Obtained from Shuvalov originally, photos from the event depict players wearing uniforms both with and without the white felt "CCCP" on front. This example features a restored CCCP crest and verso number, with Shuvalov recalling "CCCP" originating on the sweater, with the confirming outline visible before restoration. A Classic LOA will accompany.
Soviet star Viktor Shuvalov was a 5-time Russian all-star and USSR league champion, often playing with fellow stars Bobrov and Evgeny Babich. Scoring 222 goals in 150 Russian league games, he was described as "equally outstanding" to his more famous linemates. Viktor was inducted into the Russian and Soviet Hockey Hall of Fame in 1953. We should also mention that this is quite possibly the oldest Russian jersey to ever be offered for public auction.
