Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016

Featuring the champions of Manitoba for the 1908-09 season, we have a Shamrock Hockey Club cabinet photo, along with a souvenir mini-stick featuring the province’s championship from the previous season. At roughly 12 ½” x 16”, the period photo features the Shamrock Hockey Club, with all team members pictured along with executives and the trainer. Produced by noted Manitoba lensman Steele & Co, his monogram appears in the bottom left corner of the 18” x 21” mount. Most likely housed in it’s original frame at total dimensions of 22 ¾” x 25 ¾”, the composite photo does suffer from a number of condition issues, including toning, spotting and what could possibly be mold along the bottom section, especially within the left hand side. There is also water/moisture damage, with considerable wear to the mount on the left hand side where a portion of the surface material seems to have been “ripped” away from the mount. The frame also exhibits wear with staining along the lower front. The included mini-stick is a one-piece example, and it measures roughly 16 ½” from the top to where the blade starts to bend. Contemporary fountain pen text sits across the shaft, with “Portage La Prairie Feb 26th 1908 Portage + Maple Leaf Winnipeg Championship of Manitoba”. The mini-stick remains in good condition, with fairly heavy bleeding to the inscription.
