Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Hockey’s first true superstar, Fred “Cyclone” Taylor was one of the earliest professional players starring for the Portage Lakes team in 1905 before stints with Ottawa and Renfrew along with an extended stay in Vancouver with the PCHA. Taylor would pass in 1979 at the age of 94. This lot features a handwritten and signed letter from the iconic legend. At 8 ½” x 11” and scripted on British Columbia Amateur Hockey Association letter head, the ballpoint letter dated May 20th 1975 states in full, “To David John who – I understand likes to play hockey. Wishing David every success at school & play”. The signature is a large and flowing example, and it exhibits no fading or loss. The letter does exhibit an expected horizontal fold line, but this does nothing to detract from the condition or signature.
