Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
The first defenceman to reach 1000 career points, Denis Potvin would play 15 seasons for the Islanders, winning four Stanley Cups along the way. Potvin has also dressed for his country, representing Canada at the Canada Cup in both 1976 and 1981. This stick was used by the Vanier native in his second Canada Cup, and it’s been team signed. A Titan TPM model, “D. Potvin” appears stamped on, with “5” handwritten just beneath the handle along with a date stamp along the underside of “Aout 26 1981”. The stick retains its original tape on the blade and knob, with just light but definite use showing with a few dark marks present, and wear to the bottom of the blade. 17 have signed in ballpoint, with a number of the signatures exhibiting moderate fading. Signers include HOFers Gretzky, Bourque, Lafleur, Bossy, Smith and Robinson, along with Duguay, Engblom, Goring, Hartsburg, Reinhart and Mike Liut.
