Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Featuring the boys on Broadway, we have a nice little grouping of New York Rangers photos spanning from roughly the 1930s to 1970s, along with a few other items. The majority of the prints are in the 8” x 10” range give or take, with larger 11” x 14” examples of Phil and Tony Esposito playing Battling Brothers table hockey along with a colour image of the 1976 Rangers. We have on-ice images of Park, Giacomin, Ratelle, Hadfield, Worsley, Lester Patrick and others. There are 7 team photos from numerous years, we also have a nice action photo (5” x 7”) from the 1930s, a 1938 Rangers postcard from the collection of Alex Shibicky, a copy of Time from 1938 with Kerr on the cover, a Charlie Rayner business card and more.
Other standout items in this Rangers collection includes what appears to be original artwork of Lester Patrick that’s been affixed to a cardboard mount (7” x 9 ½”), a letter addressed to Red Storey on Rangers letterhead from 1959 signed by Murray Patrick, and a great vintage photo of Charlie Rayner (5 ¼” x 8 ¼”). The team photos are from 1934-35, 1948-49, 1949-50, 1957-58, 1958-59 and 1964-65 (2). Most of the prints show varying degrees of wear commensurate with their former use, with this including the odd crease, fold or indentation, with corner/surface wear. The 1938 postcard is in poor condition with a number of creases and surface loss. It has been affixed to cardboard, with a notation handwritten and signed on the reverse from Alex Schibicky.
