A publicist, Director of Communications, Road Secretary and Special Advisor… these were all areas that Camil DesRoches excelled at for the Montreal Canadiens. Beginning in 1946, he would stay with the club in one area or another for 47 glorious seasons. This lot contains items that all originate from the intriguing gentleman’s collection, including three Forum press passes from the 1940s and ‘50s with signatures from Tommy Gorman and Frank Selke, along with additional passes for the Blues and Red Wings. We also have a pair of letters addressed to Mr DesRoches on NHL letterhead signed by Clarence Campbell, along with a pair of letters from the Forum signed by Frank Selke. Lastly, there’s a pair of Christmas cards, with one example again signed by Frank Selke.
The Forum/Canadiens’ press passes are all business-card size and number three, with an example from 1942-43 signed by Tommy Gorman, while the other two hail from the 1950s dynasty years of 1956-57 and 1959-60, with both signed by DesRoches and Selke. Next we have a St. Louis Blues pass from their inaugural season of 1967-68, followed by a pass for the Red Wings from 1964-65 that has been signed by HOFer Sid Abel. The letters on NHL letterhead (1963 & 1969) both feature impressive Clarence Campbell signatures, while the Canadian Arena Company (Forum) letters (1947 & 1958) exhibits exemplary Frank Selke signatures. Most of the items remain in very good condition, with just expected handling wear which includes the odd crease, fold line or corner wear. A couple of the passes have clear tape adhered, while the 1947 CAC document exhibits staining and discoloration, along with clear tape affixed to edges. Early Habs documents and passes aren’t often seen, making these examples choice.
