Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Produced as a 240 card set in 1983, the Hockey Hall of Fame postcards featured inducted members, with the cards being noteworthy due to the inclusion of a number of the game’s earliest stars. This lot contains original artwork by noted collector Carleton McDiarmid for five of the postcards from the set, including builders John Ross Robertson, Allan W. Pickard, Francis Nelson, Frank D. Smith and Claude Robinson. Extremely vibrant and colourful, the unique mixed medium depictions on artist board all measure roughly 15” x 20” (the Robertson is 13” x 18”) and picture each respective player in both full body and portrait poses. All four remain in gorgeous condition, with working notations present. We should also note that the Smith work had the left and top border added after, and they are affixed with clear tape.
