Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016

Rare find from the late 19th century is this Skating/Figure Skating volume book with hockey content from The Badminton Library. Published in 1892, this hardcover tome features some nice period illustrations, including two bandy players. The term “hockey” is used in a chapter on bandy, a precursor game to hockey played on ice with a ball and curved wooden sticks, which is included along with sections on skating, figure skating, curling, tobogganing and ice-sailing! This scarce book measures about 7 1/2" x 5 1/2" and exhibits handling that includes wear to the edges of the spine and corners of the covers. A great addition about the roots of the game to your hockey library.
