Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
The first Art Ross Tyer pucks introduced by the NHL after using Spalding models, the smaller rubberized orange logo models were in use from 1942-50, preceding the larger orange logos which saw action from 1950-58. This lot contains a rare Ross Tyer small logo puck, and it was used only in 1943 as evidenced by the Andover Mass. location listed instead of the common Buffalo. Four individuals have signed the puck along the front in white ink with HOF’s Dit Clapper and Bill Cowley, along with John (Jack) Crawford and Don Gallinger. The reverse has “Boston Bruins” and “1942-43” handwritten, along with the outline of what appears to be a previously affixed sticker.
All signatures show fading but are very legible, along with the handwriting on the reverse. The puck itself shows nice use, with a chunk out of the top and a fairly large gouge along the edge. There are a few other cuts along the side. The rubberized logo also shows wear, with some dirt and cracking present. All of the logo's writing is still legible.
