Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
The culmination of Ted’s long standing relationship with the Red Wings and the city of Detroit, we have three awards from his personal collection up for your consideration. First we have a wooden bookend with a mounted metal ring along with a plaque that states “Ted Lindsay Gen. Mgr. of the Year 1977-78”. The second award features crossed metal hockey sticks and laurel wreath with a three-tier wooden base beneath, along with an inserted plastic puck. The base has “A Man Among Men” along with “Sept. 30, 1977”. Logos for the NHL, Red Wings and NHLPA have been inserted into the puck. The third award is a medal presented by the city of Detroit and Mayor Jerome Cavanagh, and it’s 2 ½” in diameter. An LOA from the Lindsay family will accompany.
The presentation medal pictures ladies of liberty with “Better Hope” and “Rise Ashes” in Latin on one side, and “The Spirit of Detroit” along with “Presented by Mayor Jerome P. Cavanagh” on the other. There is a little wear to the surface along with some marks along the edge. The medal comes in its original presentation box, which also remains in pleasing condition. Mayor Cavanagh’s term ran from 1962-1970. The bookend award exhibits some wear to the wooden base, including a few small cracks along the top portion. The mounted plaque also shows some wear. The final trophy features the plastic puck perched between the metal sticks and laurel wreath. The metal portion shows heavy wear and discolouration, while the “puck” also shows surface wear. The base remains in good condition, with the affixed plaque crooked.
