Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
This simply elegant gold and diamond ring was issued to a member of the 1950-51 Stanley Cup champion Toronto Maple Leafs! Very possibly a player's ring, this is indeed one of the original commemorative baubles presented to the champion Leafs, including staff members and team executives. The club did not issue these rings with names engraved, so it is entirely possible that this ring belonged to one of the Leafs legendary immortals, players such as Turk Broda, Max Bentley, Harry Watson, or any one of their illustrious teammates were all originally awarded a ring identical to this one. Size 9 with a weight of approx 8 grams, “Maple Leafs World Champions” is visible within the blue enameling over the face, centered by an embossed goal leaf with inserted diamond and “1950-51” beneath. The shanks feature Art Deco style flourishes, with "Birks 10K" stamped to the inner band. Displaying beautifully, there is surface wear from use throughout including scratches to the outer band and shanks, with the “Leafs” of “Maple Leafs” gold lettering rubbed away on the upper third of the letters. The embossed “1950-51” also shows heavier surface wear and is somewhat worn.
