Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
A stylistic representation of a bygone era, knit cardigans and pullover sweaters enjoyed thorough use during the earlier parts of the 20th century, with hockey and baseball clubs taking full advantage of their considerable comfort and definable aesthetics. We have an exceedingly rare Boston Bruins Stanley Cup champions wool pullover sweater from 1928-29, a season that witnessed Boston go 38-5-1 for an NHL record .875 winning percentage that stands to this day. A badly frayed Horace Partridge label from the prominent Beantown supplier graces the inside hem, with the wool relic measuring out to roughly a size 48. In solid beige and styled in the contemporary Bruins colour scheme with brown and gold collar, cuff and lower band accents, a combination cotton and felt crest with embroidered detailing has been utilized, pronouncing “World’s Champions 1928-29”. Please take note that this lot may be subject to a silent reserve.
Surviving in absolutely wonderful condition and giving no hints to its age, there is some minor toning of the material, along with a few very faint stains over the lower front and near the team crest. We should also note that some black threading was added to the inner collar, possibly to affix a contemporary name tag or identification that is no longer present, as it was not a repair, with absolutely no damage to the desirable antique specimen.
