Fresh off a Stanley Cup victory backed by the legendary Charlie Gardiner in 1934, the mid-1930’s Chicago Black Hawks advanced to the Quarter-Finals the next two seasons before the club’s second Cup victory in 1938. This stick was used and team-signed by the Black Hawks during this era. The heavily taped blade and knob are original to prior use, with “8” stamped in three separate areas along with it handwritten on the upper shaft. 19 ink signatures are present on the well-used stick, with the majority penned by Black Hawks from 1935-37, along with a few others. Highlights include Mush March, Earl Seibert, Clint Smith, Lynn Patrick and Bruins back-stop Tiny Thompson.
There is also a notation above the March autograph of “his stick”, but Alex Levinsky wore number #8 during this era, so this is mentioned strictly for accuracy as a definitive match regarding usage is improbable. We should also note that there is a faded red-ink notation on the lower shaft of “1935-1936”. Others who have signed this antique game-used stick include Paul Thompson, Johnny Gottselig, Louis Trudel, Doc Romnes, Alex Levinsky, Marty Burke, Bill Kendall, Art Wiebe, Mike Karakas and coach Clem Loughlin.
