Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
This “Toronto Maple Leafs, Stanley Cup Finalists, 1939-1940” hand-painted sign from the team’s Maple Leaf Gardens dressing room commemorates the Leafs’ seventh appearance in the finals in a span of nine years. HOFers Smythe, Selke, Irvin, Horner, Apps, Broda and Drillon are among the Leafs execs, staff and players listed along with Toronto’s regular season record at the bottom. Hand-lettered in dark blue paint on an off-white background with a Masonite backing, this historic sign is displayed in its original 41" x 20" blue wood frame with the original Waddington's tag from the MLG November 2000 auction still attached. Very nicely preserved, it comes with a Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment LOA.
The sign itself has only a few light marks to note, including a diagonal mark on the lower right, while the blue frame has white paint flecks on the upper right side and top edge and mounting screw holes on either side in the middle.
