A consistent player throughout his 17 year career, American-born Ed Olczyk began and then ended his time in the NHL with his hometown Chicago Black Hawks. This Black Hawks jersey was worn by Olczyk in 1986-87, and it’s been photo-matched. With the collar void of its former tagging, there are embroidered CCM and Gunzo’s patches on the bottom hem. Featuring a gorgeous and classic Indian head team crest and dual-colour tackle twill numbers, the garment also has matching tomahawk patches over both shoulders. Game-use is heavy on the important sweater, with numerous black marks on the lower front and sleeves along with 25 team repairs present – including 10 on the left sleeve, 9 on the right and 6 on the lower front.
The jersey also shows evidence of a former nameplate, and the nameplates on this 1986-87 set were taken-off for the following pre-season. Olczyk was traded to the Leafs before the 1987-88 season and a trainer put an Olczyk nameplate on the jersey for a back door sale. As mentioned, this jersey has been photo-matched, with matches to the green marks above "Gunzo's" on the hem, and to a number of black marks in the white stripes on the left elbow. Getty image #83805597 has also been matched to a pair of loose threads on the "16" of the left sleeve. Finally, we should also note that there is a handwritten notation of “IAC” on the fight strap.
