This sensational Atlanta Flames jersey was worn by NHL regular Darcy Rota in circa 1978-79. Rota would join the Flames towards the end of the 1978-79 campaign and this one displays evidence of a former nameplate so some of the use may be attributed to the player who gave up the number for Darcy. Darcy's surname is spelled out in red and yellow tackle twill letters sewn onto a white mesh nameplate. A washed-out Russell Athletic label remains in the neck and a peek inside reveals the remnants of a fight strap. This well-worn uniform exhibits really great game use with stick marks and paint scuffs all over the front and both sleeves. The lower front shows blood staining and we count three heavy team repairs on the knit cuffs. A perfect jersey from the team that would become the Calgary Flames.
The Flames' "Burning A" crest on the front and number 18 on the back and both sleeves are done in heat-screened rubber material as are the yellow and red bands on both sleeves. The rubberized bands on the bottom of the sweater are heat-screened onto the waist and a knit band makes up the bottom hem of the jersey. Rota would put up 14 points over 13 games this year and start the following season with Atlanta before a trade sent him off to Vancouver for five more seasons.
