Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
The name of Gerry Schultz is well known among old goalies from Western Canada and collectors of vintage masks alike. This Edmonton mask maker fitted pros and amateurs in the Edmonton area throughout the Sixties and Seventies. His clients included WHA and NHL goalies such as Ken Brown, Chris Worthy, Jack Norris and most notably Grant Fuhr (Gerry made Grant's rookie mask!). Circa 1977, this example was built by Gerry for his son Michael who played at the college level. A very heavy mask reminiscent of those manufactured by Higgins around the same time although this one is quite a bit thicker and has Gerry's trademark "O" mouth hole. Manufacturer stamping inside with an additional label reading "M. Schultz" is still there on the inside. Interior padding and vintage Cooper SK2 backplate and straps are intact.
