Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016

Intriguing is this group of 1968-69 cards, with the assembler satisfied with acquiring either an O-Pee-Chee or a Topps version en route to, in his mind, a complete set, if you follow. O-Pee-Chee representatives total 51 and are led by Bobby Orr's card #2 which features an often-seen diamond cut and which otherwise is in crease-free VG-EX condition. An intermittent crease is to report throughout (approximately 20%), with the majority of the cards, both OPC and Topps, falling into the VG-EX, VG-EX+ and EX grades, with some better/worse. Most notable among the OPC reps are Howe (VG+), Hull (VG-EX), Sanderson, Mahovlich, Worsley, Lemaire, Ratelle, Hall and Bower, while Topps examples are led by a Bernie Parent rookie card with a one-inch corner crease which sends it to VG. Topps lineup includes 1-Cheevers (VG), Esposito, Mikita, Sawchuk (creased VG), Beliveau (VG), Cournoyer, Richard and Horton, with an unmarked Topps checklist being an off-centered EX. EXcellent chance to score a popular design here. Note that there are both OPC and Topps examples of 48-Larry Hillman and 82-Howie Young, making for a total of 134 cards.
