Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
On Wednesday September 11th 2011, the hockey world witnessed the most tragic of occurrences when the aircraft carrying the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl hockey team of the KHL crashed before takeoff along the Volga River bank. All team members perished including three former Detroit Red Wings, Brad McCrimmon, Ruslan Salei and Stefan Liv. This Red Wings sweater was worn by Dan Cleary on January 12th 2012, and it features the Lokomotiv patch honouring that tragic team. With size tagging in collar, the jersey also has embroidered NHL and Reebok patches on the front and back necklines respectively. With a gorgeous and classic winged-wheel crest, the all-important “BM-RS-SL” patch sits over the left sleeve’s number.
Game-use is light, with no discernible wear or marks present. The team stamp rests on the inner hem, with “54926” above followed by the team’s bar code. We should add that these patched jerseys were later sold after use, with the proceeds given to the families of the former Red Wings who perished. A COA from the Detroit Red Wings will accompany.
