Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
Drafted first overall by the Detroit Red Wings in 1986, Joe Murphy would only end up spending parts of 4 seasons with the club, before later tenures with Edmonton, Chicago, St. Louis, San Jose, Boston, and finally, Washington. This Detroit Red Wings jersey was worn by Murphy in 1988-89, his second full season with the club. The Maska Ultrafil tag remains tightly affixed to the collar, with embroidered and rubberized CCM and Eastside patches on the lower hem respectively. Accented with tackle twill numbers and letters and a gorgeous and classic winged-wheel team crest, the garment also has the back name affixed directly onto the sweater.
Game-use includes stick marks on the lower front white band and over the left sleeve’s number, along with board burns and blue paint transfer. Joe has added a black marker signature to the right sleeve’s white striping band, and it’s bled into the fabric over time.
