Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
Two of hockey’s all-time greatest talents, Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky, are pictured on this box of 1988-89 O-Pee-Chee cards, with the image of Wayne on a side panel curiously not the one that appeared on his OPC card that season but rather his Topps version (Gretz holding up his new L.A. Kings jersey). The box appears to still be sealed by its original piece of scotch tape and has been inspected, certified and sealed by Baseball Card Exchange, the firm’s shrink wrap featuring an identifying sticker and accompanying hologram on the bottom, where cards of Robitaille, Gartner, Andreychuk and Loob are. Inside are 48 packs, each containing seven cards, with rookie cards of Brett Hull and Brendan Shanahan the most valuable and bolstering the 264-card set’s popularity over the years. Yet another swell trip back in time is offered here – you gotta love old unopened wax!
