Representing the beneficiary of the oldest trophy competed for in North America, we have a collection of three ceramic plates featuring Lord Stanley of Preston, the 16th Earl of Derby. At just over 9” in diameter, each transferware plate features an image of the Preston Guild along with a bust image of Lord Stanley, with the Guild’s coat of arms placed above a scroll with “Preston Guild” and “Sept 1902”. The reverse features an incised mark along with “7”. While identical in design, each plate has been finished in a different colour, with brown, red and cobalt examples present. Uncracked and in very good condition, each plate features crazing, along with varying degrees of wear to the gilded edges.
