Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
Representing the beneficiary of the oldest trophy competed for in North America, we have a small ceramic mug, and two medals featuring Lord Stanley of Preston, the 16th Earl of Derby. At 3 ¼”, the ceramic mug pictures Lord Stanley with “Guild Mayor of Preston 1902”, while the reverse features a coat of arms for the guild. The underside has a “W. Kilner” makers mark along with his location on Bridge St. In very good condition with just a few blemishes present, accompanying the mug are two medals both featuring images of Stanley, both made in commemoration for his 1902 appointment as Guild Mayor.
The silver coloured 1” medal features a coat of arms along with an image of Stanley and Queen Victoria, while the second gold coloured example pictures Stanley with “Lord Derby”, along with details and “September 1902”. Each has loops added with the gold coloured medal still retaining its tattered red white and blue ribbon. With just expected wear commensurate with a century of existence, both medals remain in very good condition, and along with the mug, will fit nicely into any true historical hockey collection.
