Widely considered one of the greatest defenceman of all-time, Doug Harvey enjoyed over two decades of professional hockey, with the pinnacle of his career taking place in the 1950’s with Montreal, winning an impressive four Norris trophies and six Stanley Cups during the decade. This Stanley Cup trophy was presented to Doug Harvey in 1953. Standing 5 ½” tall and with a roughly 9” diameter, the trophy is reminiscent of Victorian silverware, resembling the original bowl Lord Stanley donated as a challenge cup in 1893. Embellished with richly decorated scrollwork, engraved text on the front proclaims “National Hockey League Stanley Cup Winners Season 1952-53”, while the reverse features “Club de Hockey Canadien Inc. Doug Harvey”.
Finished with an ornate rim containing embossed highlights, the underside of the base has been stamped “Sheffield Reproduction” for the pattern, with the maker’s monogram and “S.P. Cooper”. With an abundant amount of tarnish present, the trophy could be cleaned if desired but displays extremely well as is, with a rich patina and vintage appearance. We should also note that the circular continuity of the base has been affected, but this does little to undermine the item’s overall aesthetics.
