Great piece of history from the 1951 NHL All-Star Game is this First All-Stars No. 10 game-worn red wool sweater attributed to Chicago forward Pete Babando. Listed in the 1951 All-Star Game program wearing No. 10 as an alternate on the First Team All-Stars roster, Babando was one of the few American-born NHL players of his era. In 1950, he scored the Stanley Cup-winning goal for Detroit in double overtime of Game 7 against New York, and had 18 goals and 37 points with Chicago in 1950-51. Wonderful chenille NHL crest sewn on the front has “1951” on the bottom and stars on the upper front and back are sewn-on white felt while the No. 10 on the back is blue and white double-felt. McNiece’s tagging is sewn inside the right front hem at the hip. This historic All-Star Game jersey, which has various holes that do not diminish its display, comes with a pair of skates attributed to Pete Babando.
Most of the holes in the jersey are concentrated in the upper front, with some more of the larger ones on the upper left back and the lower right back, back of the right sleeve and above the right cuff, and some smaller holes low on the back of the left sleeve.
Brown and black leather skates have “Steel Shank Made in Canada” stamped on the bottom of the undersole, and “11 2/3 Made in Canada” stamped under the front metal base of the blade supports, which have “Ace Pro” stamped on the sides. “R04036 511” is stamped inside the heel supports of each boot.
