Calder Trophy winner and six-time Stanley Cup champion Ralph Backstrom’s surname is stamped on the shaft of his multi-signed mid-1960s Montreal Canadiens CCM Custom Pro game-used stick. Backstrom, who was named the NHL’s rookie-of-the-year in 1958-59, began his career with two straight Cup wins at the tail end of the great Habs dynasty of the 1950s. He added four more Cups with the Canadiens’ forgotten dynasty from 1965-69. Ralph’s gamer retains his original tape job on the knob with “Backstrom 6” stamped below it on the front of the shaft. Ralph has signed in ballpoint along with HOFers Jean Beliveau and Yvan Cournoyer on one side of the shaft, and HOFer Henri Richard has signed on the other and the late John Ferguson has signed on the heel. There are some four other signatures that are either too pale or unidentified which may or may not be Montreal Canadiens players. The tape job was removed from the blade which is missing a chip on the upper part of the toe and has horizontal cracks through the blade from the tip in and rough wear with a chip on the bottom edge at the heel. Game use shows in black marks on the blade and lower shaft. There is some white paint about the middle of the shaft to note.
