Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016

Mario Lemieux’s retirement following the 1996-97 season proved not to be the last we saw of his magic, though it did mark his final 50-goal season and his sixth and last Art Ross Trophy. Super Mario, who led the league with 122 points, signed his Penguins game-worn third jersey. Lemieux placed a big bold black marker autograph in the middle of the left “6” of his No. 66 sewn on the back of this alternate gamer with the “C” on the left breast, and Starter and NHL logos embroidered on the right rear tail. “5” is written in black marker on the Starter tagging between NHL Center Ice and size 58-R tags in the neck. Nice game wear for an alternate includes board burns and an unrepaired burn hole on the left sleeve and marks on the back of the right sleeve. Comes with a pair of LOAs. Addendum; Jersey is now photo-matched to three (3) photos which will be included on a CD to the winning bidder. All photos are from a road game against the Boston Bruins and since this jersey is a set 5 alternate, the photos are most likely from the April 13th 1997 game which was Mario Lemieux’s last regular season career game prior to his first retirement. Lemieux got 2 assists in that game. Jersey is photo-matched to a small black mark in the white band of the right sleeve and a small black mark on the yellow band on the elbow of the right sleeve.
