Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
The Edmonton Oilers launched their Stanley Cup dynasty in 1984, one year after the New York Islanders showed them the price to pay when they won their fourth Cup in a row. There’s always something special about winning that first one, and that shows in this historic 1983-84 Oilers personal Stanley Cup trophy, which was presented to head trainer Barrie Stafford. Oilers captain Wayne Gretzky heads up the three columns of player names engraved on the barrel that include fellow HOFers Messier, who won the Conn Smythe, Coffey, Fuhr, Kurri and Anderson. This remarkable first Oilers Stanley Cup is nicely preserved with some proud handling and a repair at the top of the trophy, around the base of the bowl. Comes with a signed LOA from Barrie Stafford.
The other Oilers players whose names are engraved on this 1983-84 Stanley Cup personal trophy are Conacher, Fogolin, Gregg, Huddy, Hughes, Hunter, Jackson, Lindstrom, Linseman, Lowe, Lumley, McClelland, Moog, Pouzar and Semenko.
There is a small mark on the barrel above Glen Sather’s first name, and a scratch to the lower part of the barrel to the left of the players’ names towards the bottom of the first column on the left.
