Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
Partly named after Leafs legend King Clancy, Lanny King McDonald would end up playing seven seasons in Toronto, with his trade to Colorado in 1979 heavily protested by the Leafs faithful. This Maple Leafs jersey was worn by McDonald in 1978-79. Maska Superfil tagging remains loose but affixed to the collar with size tagging, with additional faded Maska stamps on the front and back lower hem. Styled with tackle twill numbers and name-on-nameplate along with custom-shortened sleeves, the jersey exhibits heavy wear, with marks and stains on the lower front along with 7 team repairs. Two smaller repairs are on and around the team crest, with a cluster of larger examples present on the lower front. We should add that McDonald was at the very top of his game when this sweater was worn, with this season being the third consecutive with 40+ goals. The Hall of Famer was also able to stay above a point a game through these three years.
