Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
The successor to the Heritage Classic, the 2008 Winter Classic featured a match-up between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres, with the former defeating the latter on a dramatic goal scored in the shootout by Sidney Crosby. This lot features a signed “Winter Classic” Crosby Pens jersey and a framed display featuring a photo of Sid the Kid actually scoring the shootout goal, putting the puck past the Sabres Ryan Miller. The moment would incite a later feeling of déjà vu for Miller, as it was Crosby who slipped the puck past him in overtime in the 2010 Olympic gold medal game, securing Canada’s third gold medal in four Olympiads.
First we’ll start with the signed Penguins jersey. A “Winter Classic” example, tagging from Reebok remains in the collar of this tie-neck beauty with tackle twill number’s and captains “C”. Crosby has signed the back number “7” in matching baby blue ink, and the signature is perfect. A hologram from Frameworth has also been affixed to the bottom of the back “7”. Next we have the framed display. A 16” x 20” photo framed and matted along with a detailed image of Ralph Wilson Stadium features Sidney scoring the shootout winner over a demoralized Ryan Miller. Sid has signed beneath his image in blue sharpie adding his number, and the signature projects nicely. A hologram from Frameworth has been placed in the lower right, and a matching COA will accompany.
