Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
Highly collected since their inception over half a century ago, bobble heads continue to fascinate collectors for both their vintage nature and nostalgic appearance. This collection of 5 nodders features original six “high skates” examples manufactured from 1961-63. Included are Montreal, New York, Toronto, Detroit and Chicago, with an average height for each nodder of 5 5/8”.
First we have the Detroit nodder. In excellent condition with nice bright paint, there are only a few small hairline cracks that proceed from the bottom of the head upwards. The decals are problem free, and the bottom exhibits a faded but legible “Japan” stamp. Next is the Toronto example. With a few small blemishes on and around the head, this doll remains in excellent condition, with no hairline cracks present. Stamped “Japan” on the bottom, both decals remain excellent with just a few small areas of paint loss on the right glove. The Rangers nodder also remains in excellent condition with just a pair of hairline cracks on the head. With beautiful bright paint throughout, both decals remain problem free. Next we have the Habs example. A few tiny blemishes are present with a few small marks on the face and base, otherwise the doll remains in beautiful condition, including nice decals. This example has also been stamped “Japan” on the underside. Lastly, we have the Black Hawks bobble head. In excellent plus condition throughout, the doll features good solid decals, with only a few marks on the base, and it too has been stamped “Japan”.
