Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
Mario Lemieux and the Pittsburgh Penguins successfully defended their Stanley Cup title in the spring of 1992. Super Mario won his second straight Conn Smythe Trophy as the Pens swept Chicago in four straight in the final. Rising 13" tall from the base, this personal Stanley Cup trophy with "Pittsburgh Penguins, 1991-92" engraved on the barrel is an example that was produced in recent years by Boffey of Montreal. With the names of Lemieux and fellow HOFers Francis, Murphy and Bowman, it is identical to the personal Stanley Cup trophies presented to the members of the 1991-92 Pittsburgh Penguins by the National Hockey League in a tradition dating back to 1957. Comes with an LOA.
This beauty in near-pristine condition has its original brown felt beneath the circular black wood base. The trophy has a slightly tilted bowl that makes its overall height range from just over 12 3/4" as measured in the front to 13” when measured in the rear.
