Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015

10 pole positions, 7 race wins and the 1997 Formula One Drivers’ Championship. It was a season to remember for Jacques Villeneuve.
This 1997 Sparco firesuit was produced specifically for Jacques to wear during weekends where Tobacco advertising was prohibited. The suit has been identified on the inside Sparco tag with a handwritten “Villeneuve”, with “I.D.” partially written over it, and has a handwritten production date of “20-2-97” as well as the handwritten reference number “09”. A large “Not for sale” is also handwritten below the Sparco tag. The suit is custom-made for Jacques without a waist belt and his name and a Canadian flag are embroidered on the lower front. A great suit from the only Canadian to ever win the Formula One Drivers’ Championship.
We must note that this suit, which is not from Jacques Villeneuve personal collection, was originally purchased in a 1998 Sports Celebrities Festival for the benefit of Quebec Special Olympics in the amount of CAD $16,500.00 and that the original auction invoice will be included. Also included is a certificate of authenticity from Williams Grand Prix Engineering Limited that mistakenly indicates that this suit would have been worn at the 1998 French Grand Prix which is corrected to the 1997 French Grand Prix on the auction invoice. Research and photographic evidence are inconclusive as to Villeneuve wore that suit in the 1997 French Grand Prix but it is nevertheless a suit made for it to wear in his unforgettable 1997 championship season.
Please take note that the NOMEX head sock, the gloves and boots shown on the pictures are for display purposes only and are not included.
